Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine research trends related to peer-mediated intervention(PMI) for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder(ASD). The studies published in academic journals from 2000 to 2022 were analyzed. A total of 35 studies(8 domestic and 27 foreign) were reviewed according to the year of publication, participants¡¯ characteristics, peer characteristics, intervention strategies, dependent variable, and qualitative aspects of the intervention. Results showed that in both domestic and foreign studies, peer-mediated interventions have been continuously studied from 2008. However, domestic studies were lower in number compared with foreign studies. Additionally, we found that the age group of the participants in the intervention was school-aged children, and the most commonly used training method was ¡°giving an explanation about the intervention.¡± It was confirmed that the social interaction, social communication, and pragmatic ability of the children with ASD were improved by PMI. With these results, recommendations and suggestions for future studies have been discussed.
